I've gone back over the product description page for this item, and did not see any reference to a contract. The same is not true on Amazon's cell phone page.
I previously had XM satellite radio, and I purchased this item outright from Amazon. I suppose I should have seen the terms & conditions at Sirius' website before purchasing, but I sort of thought since my radio would just be acknowledged by their system that no contract could be required, but I was wrong. 12 months or $75 cancellation fee.
