I bought this device as a music player/radio for my 90 minute train commute to work. When the unit get reception it works fine. However, it must have a clear line of sight to the southern sky to pick up the satellite signal. Walking around town can cause problems if you turn the corner and you lose your signal. The other major complaint is that it takes almost a full minute for the unit to "boot-up" when you turn it on. Very frustrating when you want to use the device as an MP-3 player. The battery life is sketchy. Some days it lasts for more than 4 hours and other days it dies on my way home. It is a matter of routine to charge the unit every night.
On the plus side the ear buds are great. Good sound and they fit comfortably in my ears without any sign of fatigue. The display is bright and clear and it works well when I use it in my car with the car kit. It is a little disappointing that the unit does not play video given the size and resolution of the screen.
If you want XM programming on the go, I would take a look at the XM/Sirius download application for the iPhone. My son listens to XM using the app for the iPhone. His only complaint is when he is not in a 3G area for cell reception. If you are going to use the device in more than one location, then you should take a look at it. However, if you want a music player that has more versatility, look elsewhere. Get more detail about Pioneer GEX-XMP3 Portable XM Satellite Radio Receiver w/ Home Kit.
