Where To Buy Sony HTCT500 3.1 Speaker System with Complete Built-In A/V Receiver (Black)

I was impressed by the construction quality, plethora of HDMI inputs, subwoofer/sound bar richness and power, and sleekness and compatibility of its components.

I was disappointed by the lack of surround sound.

Please do not buy this expecting an immersive surround sound experience. This is a sleek, compact, no clutter, high quality sound system that will do any non-audiophile home theater system proud.Get more detail about Sony HTCT500 3.1 Speaker System with Complete Built-In A/V Receiver (Black).

Shop For Logitech Squeezebox Radio

I bought this to replace my bedside clock radio. For some reason, we have an issue with receiving good radio signals in our bedroom, and I was getting tired of waking up to static. This radio totally blew us away ... my husband is getting rid of his as well, and we are just going to use this one! We are on the 2nd floor of my house, with the wireless router in the basement (2 floors down). I had a few issues the first night with dropping the connection, but once I rebooted the Airport Extreme, it has worked fine ever since - I had a friend who told me he thinks it is a [...]problem, since he's had the same issue every time he adds something new to his network ...

One thing the other reviews didn't mention - you don't have to set the time! Just your time zone - it syncs time from the internet! And if you lose power, it reconnects when everything comes back up and downloads all your settings from your [...] account!

I love the preset buttons - although my husband wishes there were more. I like being able to stream NPR from both my home area of Denver and Colorado Springs - if one is begging for money I switch over to the other (I am a member). I loved the way I could just go to local stations, and there they were! I can also type in the call letters of my favorite stations and it finds it right away.

I like the way I can turn down the intensity on the screen - my husband was putting a book in front of his because it was so bright. And I love the sounds for the alarms - and that I can program them to go Monday to Friday! No more being woken up at 6:00am on Saturday because I forgot to turn off the alarm! And I like being able to program it from the website - a lot easier than dealing with the little buttons and the little screen on the radio!

I haven't even installed the software so I can stream my iTunes library - I keep listening to Pandora instead.

This purchase has opened our eyes to a whole new way to stream internet radio. We've listened to Radio Paradise for years - which is internet only. My husband listens to internet radio all the time on his laptop - now he wants one of these for his home office so it doesn't tie up the resources on his computer. And we want one for our main stereo - looks like we'll be adding a Squeezebox Duet and probably a boom box at some point - maybe for Christmas ...Get more detail about Logitech Squeezebox Radio.

Sony SCD-CE595 5-Disc CD/Super Audio CD Player Review

My wife is music teacher, and it is important to us have a decent audio system in the house that plays from various source. When she moved in in 1998, she had a Technics component system, one of those with monster speakers that I recall seeing on display at Macy's in the 1970s. All that is left of that system is the turntable and the dual tape deck. We have on Onkyo 804 receiver and Axiom speakers. At the same time as we upgraded the receiver and the speakers, we bought the Sony SCD CD5 CD changer. The sound was terrific, but that may have been mostly attributable to the receiver and the speakers. We did that upgrade in 2006. This year (2009) we began to have big problems with the CD changer. Some CDs it would not play at all. (This was not a moisture problem as it would play others). I am not talking about downloaded CDs here, I am talking music CDs for teachers that were recently purchased. They play on the boom box, and on the Phillips wall-mounted CD /radio player, but they don't play in the Sony. The final straw was today, when we put a disc in, closed the machine up, pressed the play button and got no sound. A common occurrence. But then when I pressed the open /close button to the disc out, the machine did nothing. I had to turn the machine off and on a few times before we could get the CD (one of a set, and needed for work) out. This machine in now in the garage, waiting for our next trip to the dump. I hooked up an Onkyo DX-C390. It is working. The sound is better, much better. My advice is to avoid this Sony product and go with the Onkyo or the Yamaha, which seems to be getting great reviews. Onkyo TX-SR507 5.1-Channel A/V Surround Home Theater Receiver (Black) Top Quality

I replaced an older Yamaha (non HDMI/HD) receiver with this one. The Onkyo was easy to set up although it took a while to figure out how to set all the options I needed. Sounds great. My biggest complaint is with the manual and Onkyo support. Since I am new to HDMI devices I had alot of trouble in making all my components work since my old DVD player and new Onkyo iPod dock are not HDMI. Two emails from Onkyo support were even more vague than the manual so I had to spend a while in trial and error until I got it all working. Not fun when your TV and equipment fit tightly in a cabinet and you have to take everything out to plug, replug while trying to keep all the cables as neat as possible.

I was going to buy the SR607 since it was highly recommended from the electronIc store clerks. One of them even hugged the receiver while telling me how much he loved it!!. However, I didn't need 7:1 surround sound so settled on this one and it sounds great. Can't wait to get a Blu Ray player next.Get more detail about Onkyo TX-SR507 5.1-Channel A/V Surround Home Theater Receiver (Black).

Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1-Channel Theater System (Black) Right now

I recently purchased this product after doing extensive searching for a surround sound system. I wanted something nice but not too expensive. Then I came across this Sony one and it had everything I wanted including wireless rear speakers and a MP3 hookup. At the store it was still kind of expensive but then I found it on Amazon and it was $125 cheaper and no tax and no shipping. How awesome is that. Everything was so easy to hookup. I hung the speakers on the walls with ease. The sound is just awesome. It looks sleek too. I would and have already recommend this product to others.Get more detail about Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1-Channel Theater System (Black).

Lowest Price Sony HTCT100 Sound Bar with Sub-Woofer - Black

I recently moved to an apartment and needed all new equipment, but I didn't want to have to run speaker wire all over the apartment for a true surround system, and I also didn't want to spend a lot of money for something I might replace if I ever get a house again. I started looking at soundbars, not really expecting much from them. I found that most soundbars take a single audio input from your tv, but this is a real limitation since most tv's do not pass surround sound to the audio output; I really wanted the Samsung soundbar to match my tv, but the single input is just too limiting. The Sony CT100 is the only soundbar in this price range that has discrete hdmi inputs for all of your sources (3), plus it has an optical input from your tv for OTA broadcasts or equipment that must attach to your tv anyway (like a PS2 or Wii, see below). The CT100 has several sound processing modes, but I usually just leave it set to Movie mode. The sound level is not room shattering (but I don't want that in an apartment anyway) but it is plenty loud enough for the space that I have it in; those with very large spaces or open ceilings might want to look elsewhere, such as the Sony CT500). The bass is also not floor thumping, but again that has no place in an apartment anyway. Overall this product surpassed my expectations, and is a vast improvement over the built-in tv speakers. While not true surround, it does add a lot of depth to Dolby Digital or DTS sources, far better than a soundbar with only a single input from the tv (since those soundbars won't normally be receiving DD or DTS but merely 2ch stereo except for OTA broadcasts).

The one limitation of this unit IMHO is that you can't feed video via hdmi and audio via optical at the same time; plugging in an hdmi source disables all of the other inputs for that same source. The only video inputs on this unit are hdmi, so you can't hook a Nintendo Wii to this system for example; of course you can always hook non-hdmi sources directly to your tv, but then you probably won't get surround sound to the soundbar. For those who have all hdmi 1.3 sources (video and audio together) this is a good solution; for others you might need to look at the CT500, which I think has a much more complete set of inputs. I received the turntable today, but the unit will not operate. I've tried several outlets and even tested the outlets with other devices to ensure they were working outlets. Cheapest Onkyo TX-SR607 7.2-Channel A/V Surround Home Theater Receiver (Black)

This as all the bells and whistles you'll ever neen: six HDMI inputs, two component inputs digital and coax audio inputs, HD upconversion, bi-amping, HDMI pass through, and on screen set up. I loved this reciever from the moment I turned it on. The HD picture quality was stunning, the sound was amazing, and the set up was a breeze thanks to the on-screen menu which was very handy because the unit's front display was broken! I couldn't tell what volume I was on or what sound setting I was on; and I still loved this reciever. I simple repackaged it and waited for its replacement. It was upsetting that I had to do that, but this reciever is so amazing that it was worth every penny and the hassle of the return. The broken unit I would give three and a half stars! If you have Blu-ray and or HD cable/satilite buy this reciever. You will not be dissapointed.Get more detail about Onkyo TX-SR607 7.2-Channel A/V Surround Home Theater Receiver (Black).

Cheap Sony SS-B1000 5 1/8-Inch Bookshelf Speakers (Pair)

Got these with an Onkyo Receiver and Ipod dock. Thought they might be a little small, but they sound great. I hooked up a pair of older surround sound speakers and run them and the Sonys together. The smaller ones send the highs a little better, while the Sonys give a good mid and lower range. For the money, I am satisfied.Get more detail about Sony SS-B1000 5 1/8-Inch Bookshelf Speakers (Pair).

Buying Sony DEJ011 CD Walkman« Portable CD Player

I purchased my Sony CD Walkman D-EJ011 at Best Buy when my Memorex portable CD player died after a few years of heavy use. I typically use the CD player to listen to audio books while walking, gardening, doing housework, etc. My primary reason for purchasing this model was because of its memory feature which resumes play right where it was stopped. Since I check audio books out of my local library, they are often slightly scratched and the result is akin to a needle skipping on an old vinyl record whenever there is the slightest scratch. I've been able play the disk on my home sound system confirming the disk is playable. Even after having the disks buffed out at the library, the disks typically will still not play in the Walkman. The only way to continue listening is to forward to the next track which is unacceptable because you may be miss several minutes of play time each time. Additionally, I do not care for the placement of the controls and have frequenly had to restart the player whenever I bumped ever so slightly into anything or had to reset after accidentally going into shuffle mode. Additionally, changing the batteries is more than a little akward since you must remove the disk from the player to pry out the batteries from inside the unit. Although my hands are not large, I literally used a nail grooming instrument to extract the batteries. I much preferred the ease of swapping out batteries on the back panel of my old Memorex player and never worried about dropping and potentially damaging a disk in the process. Within 4 months of operating my Sony player, the audio control got flaky and the unit displays "AVLS" when I attempt to increase the volume; I presume this means the unit has reached its maximum available volume. The end result is that I can not hear the reader when passing either a vehicle or people talking while walking down an otherwise quiet street. The appearance is good is the battery life, but I'm looking for another player. This is the first time I've ever been disappointed by a Sony product and I certainly have higher expectations of their products, especially since they are not shy about charging premium prices. 2 starGet more detail about Sony DEJ011 CD Walkman« Portable CD Player.

Buy Pioneer VSX-1019AH-K 7-Channel A/V Receiver (Black)

This is perfect for the average home theatre system. The only problem I saw was when the cable box went through the receiver it created some pixilation when watching fast sporting events like football and hockey. So I just bypassed the Pioneer with HDMI from cable box straight to TV and ran optical from receiver to TV. The basic set up is pretty easy but some other features are more difficult to navigate through even with the manual. All it takes is a little time playing around with the remote and trying different settings and you will be very happy. Get more detail about Pioneer VSX-1019AH-K 7-Channel A/V Receiver (Black).

Order Digital Stream DSP7700P Digital TV Converter Box (Black)

Having never applied for a coupon before it was too late, this was the most affordable over-the-air dtv converter option on Amazon after I moved, bought a used 32-inch WEGA for my new apartment, and then realized that between netflix and hulu, I probably didn't need cable.

I have it hooked up to an RCA ANT1450 that is sitting on top of my TV that I picked up at wal-mart. I had been planning to get both the box and antenna at wal-mart so I could return them easily if I wasn't getting any channels, but they just simply didn't have any boxes left.

Pros:
1. Lowest priced box I could find anywhere. I have no idea when all the coupons would expire thus eliminating the artificial price floor on these, but I couldn't wait.
2. Great picture quality on my large-screen SD TV (when the signal quality is good)
3. Auto scan is reasonably quick. Takes about 1-2 minutes to do a complete re-scan detecting about 68 channel numbers (45 active channels/sub-channels among them) in the process (this obviously depends on your area and antenna)
4. Seems to work fine based on the number of channels it detected for me and the smooth video & audio for nearly half of them most of the time (admittedly I have no other boxes to compare with)
5. Clear, large fonts and menus that are well categorized and very easy to use
6. Has all the standard features; auto-scan, CC options, language options, CC size, program info, signal meter, aspect ratio switching, local-time auto-update, etc.
7. Compact, minimalist size and design
8. Has analog pass-through (I believe this is to hook up a DVD player to an old tv with just a coax input). Don't need this and haven't tried it.
9. The box shows whatever video & audio it can with the available signal without trying to 'pause and wait'. This is good, especially with the lack of any artifact/static noise. Audio is just broken when the signal is poor without any annoying clicking noises.

Cons:
1. Not a speed demon. Time between switching channel and picture appearing varies from 1-3 seconds, with most taking 1-2 seconds. For channels that have no program or too poor signal to display, the 'Poor signal' or 'No program' message can take between 3 to 12 seconds to appear, which can get pretty annoying
2. Supports quick switching between 4 video aspect modes - anamorphic, 16:9, 14:9 and zoom. This makes quick switching very easy and that's good, but I would expect to not be too difficult to detect the incoming signal resolution and choose the mode accordingly, without the user having to choose the correct mode each time you reach a channel that uses a different native mode from the one you chose last. At the very least, the last mode setting should be remembered at the channel level, i.e. if I switch to 16:9 while viewing channel 4 and then switch to anamorphic when viewing channel 11, the mode should go back to 16:9 when I return to channel 4. This doesn't happen.
3. The program guide is very basic, and I mean VERY basic. You cannot see what programs are on other channels without switching channels, the guide itself takes about 1-2 seconds to update after switching a channel, it displays a very limited number of characters from the program title and there is no PIP browsing.
4. Has controls for TV power & volume adjustment, which do not work for my TV. The set-top box volume adjustment works fine though. This just means that I still need to use my TV remote to turn my TV ON/OFF.
5. Remote pointing angles aren't very wide.
6. Included coax cable is very short (probably 2ft) with slip-on connectors (instead of the standard screw-type). Picked up a 6ft coax cable at wal-mart.

Overall: Recommended for anyone on a budget who wouldn't mind the slight delays in switching channels and the really basic program guide. Excellent value given the picture quality - can't get much better than this.

Note: 2 of the current customer images show a DTX9950, which is NOT what I received. My box has the same number as the Amazon product title - DSP7700P - and the same curved-front appearance as the Amazon product image.Get more detail about Digital Stream DSP7700P Digital TV Converter Box (Black).

Where To Buy Tivax STB-T8 Digital to Analog TV Converter Box

Someone gave me a different brand of converter which I used on my primary TV. It seemed to work OK. I read great reviews about the STB-T8 and bought one with my $40 coupon. The main issue I have is the program guide. The ease of finding what is showing and will be showing for a particular channel is very poor. I find I frequently have to adjust the aspect ratio depending on the broadcast resolution. This can change from channel to channel or even show to commercial to show. The built in closed captioning, even though it gives the user many options, is difficult to read. The unit also runs quite hot. The only plus is that this model does show analog programming as well as digital but given the other issues, I would keep shopping. The first unit I was given had none of these problems but only shows digital broadcast.Get more detail about Tivax STB-T8 Digital to Analog TV Converter Box.

Shop For Zinwell ZAT-970A Digital to Analog TV Converter Box

I ordered two of the Zinwell converter boxes as did my sister. Of those 4 boxes only 1 was functional. Two of the boxes would not even turn on. No power light whatsoever. One turned on after trying every adapter and then only after a few tries. It's almost as if it had to warm up and even then the menu screen never came up. The one that did work was ok as far as set up but not completely user friendly. It's a good thing we didn't have to pay for them because of the coupon redemption. I guess it proves the saying that you get what you pay for.Get more detail about Zinwell ZAT-970A Digital to Analog TV Converter Box.
